Have you visited Chureito pagoda? This place is quite famous for its BEAUTIFUL scenery.
When you take pictures of the pagoda and Mt. Fuji, you should climb up on the stone wall behind the pagoda. That surface is sloping and slippery, so Fujiyoshida city has set up a safety barrier on the wall. But the view from there has not changed.
Please come and enjoy the scenery!!!

O-hanami 2012
I went to Arakura Sengen Shrine in Fujiyoshida city today.
It must be the most popular place for taking a "Mt. Fuji & sakura & pagoda" picture. The front cover picture of the 1st edition of Lonely Planet Discover Japan was taken at the exact same place.

But I am wondering when it was taken, because if it's April there must be more snow on Mt. Fuji....

O-hanami 2012
I went to Nirasaki and Hokuto city for o-hanami (cherry blossom viewing).
Wanitsuka-no-sakura was a bit late for its full bloom, but still beautiful. When it's clear, you can see Mt. Yatsugatake over the tree.
Jindai-zakura in Jisso-ji temple is said to be almost 2,000 years old! It's one of the three big cherry trees in Japan, and is considered as a national natural treasure. A group consisting of tree doctors has been maintaining its root and surround. http://www.unshouen.co.jp/cn9/pg42.html
There are a lot of cherry trees in the temple. This shidare (=weeping) cherry is from Fukushima. From other one of the three big cherry trees, Miharu-takizakura. http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E4%B8%89%E6%98%A5%E6%BB%9D%E6%A1%9C

Today's Mt.Fuji
It might be the only day we could see both Mt.Fuji and Sakura. The weather forcast said it's gonna be cloudy tomorrow. That means we might not be able to see Mt.Fuji... Sakura's beautiful days are limited. If it rains, they will fall..... So I went to see & take pictures of them eventhough I had to do lots of other things!

Spring has come!
I went to Matsuda(松田) in Kanagawa pref. to see cherry blossoms. This kind of cherry tree is called "Kawazu-zakura(河津桜)" and blooms earlier than "Somei-yoshiho(ソメイヨシノ)". The contrast of pink of cherry blossoms with yellow of canola flowers was fantastic. Unfortunately, we couldn't see Mt.Fuji from there, because it hazed over...... Spring has come!

Sakura & Weather Report

We had very strange weather these days..... Especially today!!! It was like foggy, rainy, cloudy, partly sunny, snowy (!), sunny, snowy (again!), sunny, snowy (again!), and sunny day.... Snow in April??? This picture was taken this morning. Sakura buds seemed to be very surprised at the snow! Last night we had snow and we couldn't drive up to the 5th station today. Be careful when you drive around here this season, and make sure if the Subaru Line toll road is open or not. http://www17.plala.or.jp/climb_fujiyama/Fuji%20Subaru%20Line%20Info.html
