O-hanami 2012

I went to Nirasaki and Hokuto city for o-hanami (cherry blossom viewing).

Wanitsuka-no-sakura was a bit late for its full bloom, but still beautiful.  When it's clear, you can see Mt. Yatsugatake over the tree.
Jindai-zakura in Jisso-ji temple is said to be almost 2,000 years old!  It's one of the three big cherry trees in Japan, and is considered as a national natural treasure.  A group consisting of tree doctors has been maintaining its root and surround.  http://www.unshouen.co.jp/cn9/pg42.html

There are a lot of cherry trees in the temple. This shidare (=weeping) cherry is from Fukushima.  From other one of the three big cherry trees, Miharu-takizakura. http://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E4%B8%89%E6%98%A5%E6%BB%9D%E6%A1%9C
